8th Cheam Scout Group has been serving the young people and the community of Cheam for 75 years.
We change lives by offering boys and girls from 6 to 14-year-olds fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others so that we make a positive impact in the community.
Scouting helps children and young adults reach their full potential.
Scouting develops skills including teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment.
Our history
1949 saw 8th Cheam Cub Pack formed by Elsa Potts, after an overspill of membership in the Cheam area.
1951 saw 8th Cheam form its first Scout Troop.
1967 saw us open our own headquarters in Spring Close Lane, Cheam.
1984 saw us start one of the first Beaver Colony’s in the Sutton and Cheam District and this year our Beaver Colony is celebrating its 40th birthday. The colony has seen many young people (boys and girls) go up through our scouting sections.
Our financing
The financing to maintain and run our own headquarters for our young people are, as always, reliant on subscriptions (see information page), donations and fund-raising, like themed Quiz Nights and BBQ’s.
Our aim
We believe 'Scouting' is about having fun, making friends and sharing experiences.
Also, to promote loyalty, trust and in today’s generation of the internet and game consoles, give young people the opportunity for real-life activities, adventure and the skills for life.
