For 75 years, 8th Cheam Scout Group has supported young people and the wider Cheam community.

We offer boys and girls aged 6 to 14 fun, challenge, adventure, and opportunities to help others—building confidence and making a positive difference in the community.

Scouting helps children and young people reach their full potential.

Along the way, they develop valuable life skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, planning, time management, initiative, self-motivation, cultural awareness, and commitment.

Scouting helps children and young adults reach their full potential.

Our history

8th Cheam began in 1949, when Elsa Potts founded the Cub Pack to meet growing demand for Scouting in the Cheam area.

In 1951, the group formed its first Scout Troop.

In 1967, we opened our own headquarters in Spring Close Lane, Cheam.

In 1984, we launched one of the first Beaver Colonies in the Sutton and Cheam District. Last year, the colony celebrated its 40th anniversary and has welcomed generations of boys and girls into Scouting.

How we are funded

We rely on subscriptions, donations, and fundraising to maintain and run our headquarters for local young people.

Events such as themed quiz nights and BBQs help support everything we do.

Our aim

We believe Scouting should be fun, build friendships, and create memorable shared experiences.

We also aim to promote loyalty and trust, while giving young people the chance to enjoy real-life adventure, practical activities, and skills for life in an increasingly digital world.
